Professional Statement

Kathryn Fleishman is a graduate student in English with a Designated Emphasis in Film & Media Studies. She received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania (English and Italian Studies, 2006) and her MA at University College London (English, Issues in Modern Culture, 2010).

Fleishman works mainly on post-1945 American fictions, with particular attention to issues of gender and sexuality, readerly affect, narrative theory, developments in popular film and television, Cold War cultures, and ethnic and immigrant literatures of the USA.

In 2014, she received the Phi Beta Kappa Graduate Fellowship (Alpha Chapter). She is currently working on her dissertation, which proposes to use gender & sexuality studies as a means of rereading the postmodern aesthetic across a range of novels, films, and TV serials.
